Abstract

A condenser for direct or by-pass steam-cycle operation, at about 90 degrees C, comprises a central steam pipe with outlets towards the outer steam drum, which is protected by a pair of clad deflector plates. The steam flow then passes into four similar expansion chambers, to be cooled by water spray jets from tubes inserted from outside the main steam drum. Side shields inhibit back-leakage of steam. Collecting tubes cross the space between the expansion chambers and the outlet duct.
