Abstract

Formings go enhanced transparency and strength made from crystallisable opaque thermoplastic by A) loading a blank shape into a machine capable of applying shear stresses, B) raising the material temp. to a point between melting and degradation, C) lowering the material temp. to a region between the m.pt. and the softening pt. D) generating sufficient shear strain in the material to orient and align a significant proportion of the molecules to induces crystallisation in shear, and E) chilling the material to a frozen state. Pref. the product wall thicknes is >=0.01 mm, pref. 1.50-9.52 mm. and phase B) is 30 degrees C above the m.pt., phase C is at 5-55 degrees C below the m.pt.
