Abstract
1424532 Casting composite articles JAMES BROWN & SONS Ltd 20 March 1973 [7 Aug 1972] 12993/72 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions F2 and F4] A casting has a tube embedded therein, the tube having ridged internal and external surfaces and the external surface area of the tube being between 2¢ and 5 times the external surface area of a plain tube having an external diameter which is the same as the minimum external diameter of the ridged tube between the ridges. The tube may be made of stainless steel or a copper/nickel alloy and may be corrugated or provided with fins, the corrugations or fins having the form of concentric rings or a single or multi-start helix. The casting may be made of copper and in the particular embodiments described the tube forms a passage for a cooling fluid in a bearing and in a tuyere for a blast furnace.
