Abstract

Each cell of the generator is based on a tubular separator element through whose central channels, in cascade is forced a current of alkalene soln., esp. potash, with powdered metal esp. Zn, in suspension. Oxidant gas, esp. air, is circulated over the outer surfaces of the tubes esp. in an outer common chamber. Each separator consists of a wire mesh inner negative electrode, followed by a porous, insulating stable material layer, impermeable by the metal powder and with high water affinity. Over this is a layer of active material also porous and electron conductive and in which the oxygen-alkali reaction takes place. Over this is a coil forming the positive current collector and this is embedded in porous, stable, water repellent material. Cell has very high power/weight ratio.
