Abstract
Wood fibre pulp, formed e.g. by treating wood fibres with steam, is fed pref. to the top of a lixiviating chamber to which lixiviating agent (pref. alkaline) is supplied. The pulp is then washed, e.g. by supplying water to the bottom of the lessivating chamber to reduce the lixiviating agent content and removed by suction from the bottom of the lixiviating chamber and fed to pref. a coarse grade refiner and a fine grade refiner arranged in series. Pref. the pulp is removed from the lessivating chamber at a pressure of 10-20 atm. and has a consistency of 8-15% fibres by wt. A filtering unit may be provided between the lixiviating chamber and the refiners to remove agglomerates and return them for reprocessing.
