Abstract

Organic materials, pref. polypropylene, also other plastics, monomers, polishes, creams and lotions, are stabilised against decomposition by UV rays by adding 0.01-5 (0.05-1) wt.% stabilisers having the general formula (I):- (where R1, R2 and R3 each are H, halogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, or cycloalkyalkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy or cycloalkylalkoxy, -CN or -COOR4 in which R4 is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl or Ph opt. substd. by 3 alkyl gps. or an equiv. of a 2- or 3-valent cation; X1 and X2 each is H, halogen, OH, CN, alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkyalkyl or alkoxy, cycloalkoxy or cycloalkylalkoxy), pref. cpds. (Ia) (where R'3 is H or -COOR4; X'1 and X'2 each is H, (cycloalkyl)alkyl or (cycloalkyl)-alkoxy and one X'1 or X'2 is not H), prepd. from cpds.
