Abstract

A mixt. of methacrylonitrile and butadiene is produced by reacting a mixt. contg. isobutylene and n-butene (pref. 1-butene) in a proportion of ca 20 : 1 - 1 : 20 (pref. 10 : 1 - 1 : 10) v/v with molecular O2 and NH3 in the presence of an oxidn. catalyst at ca 250 - 600 degrees C. Higher yields of both prods are obtd. expensive sepn. of isobutylene and n-butene is avoided. Reaction prods can easily be sepd.
