Abstract

For trimming and processing cultivated mushrooms they are floated in water so that the head of each can be captured in a tube to bring the mushroom to an upright position. The tube is now fitted with a device for centralising the mushroom stem within the tube. The centring device takes the form of an iris diaphragm tube mechanism, comprising three pivoted plates, actuated by a collar which can be rotated around the tube. A single tube can handle mushrooms over a wide range of head dia. less pre-sorting being required.
