Abstract

Aq. wastes contg. biologically degradable material are treated with activated sludge using oxygen-contg. gas for aeration. After each stage, CO2 is removed from the gas, e.g. by absorption in an amine or adsorption on a zeolite, before it is recycled. The process is more efficient w.r.t. oxygen consumption and is esp. useful where high oxygen content gases are used for aeration.
