Abstract

The polluted water is brought into acontact with a hydrophobic cellulose fibre material which shows an affinity for the suspended matter. The cellulose material is pref. wood fibre with the individual fibres completely coated with hydrophobic material, pref. wax, bitumen, resin, elastomer or thermoplastic resin. The coated fibres may be moulded into a suitable shape before use. The materials are able to absorb oil, suspensions slimes, gels, etc. from water up to their volume capacity without sinking.
