Abstract
An age resistant polymer is formed by the free radical emulsion polymsn. of a monomer system contg. a cpd. of formula:- where R and R' are 4-8C tert. alkyl, R2 and R3 are H 1-12C alkyl, 5-12C cycloalkyl, 7-13C aralkyl or 6-12C aryl, R4 is as R2 and R3 but not 6-12C aryl, R5 is H 1-4C alkyl, carboxymethyl or carbalkoxymethyl, R6 is H, 1-4C alkyl, opt. substd. phenyl, -COOH or carbalkoxy, R9 is as R2 and R3, x is 0 or 1, y is 0-4, z is 0-12, x + y + z = 0-12. The monomer system contains >=40 pts. a diene monomer based on 100 pts. total monomers (I) acts as an antioxidant and being part of the polymer is not removed by e.g. washing with detergents.
