Abstract
In a reaction rate detector, light projected through a sample and a reference is compared photoelectrically, a difference signal is used to attenuate the signal from the reference light to equal that from the sample light, the reference signal then being maintained at that level, the initial reaction speed is determinend and at a time dependent on this speed the new signal from the sample light is compared with the attenuated reference signal and the difference is used to provide a direct indication of the rate of change of absorbence and hence the reaction rate. The reading interval is automatically reduced for rapid reactions.
