Abstract

Galvanized scrap-iron is attacked with a H2SO4 soln. contg. a colloid being: gelatine, bone glue, starch, dextrin, guar gum, or polyacrylamide flocculants. The colloids inhibit dissolution of the Fe but allow dissolution of the Zn. After the attack, the soln. may be electrolyzed to yield Zn.
