Abstract
gamma-Al2O3.H2O in an extrudable form and suitable for use as a contact catalysis mass or catalytic carrier is made simply by mixing 0.3-2.0 pts. acid, 36-50 pts. H2O and 50 pts. gamma-Al2O3.H2O, pref. contg. 1.0 wt % C as a prim. alcohol, and 70-80 wt % Al2O3. The prefd. acids are 70% aq. HNO3 or acetic acid but a wide range of inorganic, monofunctional organic or halogenated organic acids can be used. The material has high compression resistance, total pore vol. of 0.50-0.65 cc/gm and av. pore dia. of 50-80 A.
