Abstract

Moulded articles in flexible polyurethane foam are made in a mould in which the greater part of the upper section is perforated to give a porosity of 5-90%, pref. 40-80% and the distance between adjacent orifices of 30 mm., pref. 10mm. The foaming mixture consists of polyether-polyosl having a functionality =3, and a mean M.W. between 500 and 2000, and an aromatic polyisocyanate. The porosity may be obtd. by putting a sheet of cloth over the top of the mould before closing. The flexible foam has good mechanical properties and a low % compression set after compression at 90% and is used for making seats, cushions and carpet backing, partic for automobile equipment.
