Abstract

Appts. consists of a long, narrow tank formed by two vertical walls and a concave base; it is divided into two longitudinal zones and is closed at the top so that it can operate either under press. or under a vacuum. One zone includes a heat exchanger consisting of vertical tubes enclosed in heating jackets and supplied with insulating walls. Evapn. of the solvent is compensated by the addn. of mother liquor introduced at the base of the tank. This mother liquor passes through a space between the wall of the tank and a corrugated sheet; it then flows over an overflow with adjustable notches. The appts. is very flexible in use; it can be adapted for the prodn. of crystals of different dimensions and to the use of mother liquors of variable quality. The level of the massecuite is maintained constant by means of a weir with an adjustable sill. The whole assembly enables the massecuite to be maintained under the best crystallisation conditions along the length of the appts.
