Abstract

Vinyl chloride polymer films are produced by (a) forming a film from a vinyl chloride (co)polymer with a high degree of stereoregularity, (b) drawing the film in >=1 direction, and (c) subjecting the film to a series of chemical and physical treatments which make the film highly impermeable for gases, impart a high resistance against shrinkage on heating and opt. make the film heat sealable and capable of laminating with other materials in the form of films. Gives films with good combination of mechanical and chemical properties, including high transparency and good dimensional stability. Esp. useful for packaging foods.
