Abstract

An edge filter element made by clamping together a stack of coaxial, slightly spaced discs, the interface filtering passages being tapered over part of their radial lengths by profiling the disc faces. Using inter disc spacing washers, it is possible to control the filtering gaps very accurately and very simply. The circumferential edges of the discs stand up well to the wear imposed by an automatic cleaning scraper-remaining operative for much longer periods than the easily-damaged, wire-wound edge filter elements.
