Abstract

A pref. cross-wound yarn package is carried on a support whilst injection needles are inserted axially into the underside of the package by pref. an actuator ram and during insertion the neeldes are vibrated axially pref. by an electrical vibrator operating at 50 Hz to ease penetration of the needles and eliminate bending and possible breakage of the needles. Subsequently treatment fluid (e.g. dye) is injected through the needles into the package. Pred. several needles are carried on a common support and a vibrator for each needle is arranged between the needle and common support. Alternatively a single vibrator may be provided between the common support and the actuator ram.
