Abstract
Molten Cu is conveyed to the solidification chamber of a caster wheel for the prodn of rods, wires etc. by a self-adjusting mechanism comprising a tube socket immersed in the melt, which is surrounded inside the casting chamber by a layer of solidified metal. The tube socket consists of an Fe alloy with a high Cr content, pref. >20% Cr. This prevents burring occurring on the area of contact between the caster wheel groove and its covering circular strip metal.
