Abstract

Methlacrylate (I) is contacted with H2S whereafter 0.005% w.r.t. wt. of (I) of a strongly basic catalyst (II) are added, the reaction product being essentially dimethyl-thiodipropionate. (II) is Na- or K-methylate, Na- or K-ethylate, Na- or K-tert-butylate, NaH, KH, CaH2, Me3benzylammonium-methylate, Na- or K-amide or a corresponding Li-cpd. Products are obtained in high yield and purity.
