Abstract

The plant is intended to remove core material and residual sand from sand castings after their removal from their mould and uses electrical high tension discharges in a liquid, into which the casting is immersed. The plant consists of a trough with the fluid, a swivel mounted frame with a sieve floor pivoted on a horizontal shaft and actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. Whilst the fines fall through the sieve floor to the bottom of the trough, coarser sand agglomerates etc. are removed when the frame is swung into its vertical charging position when they drop into a channel with a moving belt. The electrode holder for the process is also swivel mounted. The plant is fully automatic and can be inserted into a flow production line. No dust is produced during its operation thereby greatly reducing the dust nuisance usually associated with plant carrying out this process.
