Abstract

Process for prepg. title cpd. (I) from 6-methoxytetralone avoids the use of high temp. demethylations using pyridinium bromide, by substituting HBr/HOAc reagent. The final reaction (II) right arrow (I): is carried out using the ionic redn. mixture (II), Et3SiH and CF3CO2H in ratio 1:20:20, in benzene, concg. the benzene extract, treating first with NaBH4 in MeOH at 40-45 degrees C, and then with HOAc.
