Abstract

Metallic workpieces, partic brassfoundered industrial valves, have a hard layer applied by depositing austenoferritic stainless steel having the mechanical characteristics of semi-hard steel, machining the layer and the workpiece to give the required profile, and submitting them to heat treatment at 550 degrees C to structurally harden the stainless steel, without permanently deforming the workpiece or layer.
