Abstract

Spreading tool, for the production of tubes of glass or similar material by a process in which the molten material runs onto the tool while it is rotating in a horizontal vertical or a downwards sloping position, such that the material runs around the tool uniformly due to its rotation and from the end of which the tube is drawn, comprises several rings of fused ceramic. Specifically the ceramic is a mixture of Al2O3 and ZrO2. The rings are assembled into a hollow tube and clamped together with a central shaft between ceramic end pieces. The shaft is fastened to an annulus between which and the first ceramic end piece a spring is located to take up differences in thermal expansion between the ceramic and the metal. The design allows for easy replacement of worn ceramic sections.
