Abstract

The circular or polygonal room contg. the turbines and heat exchangers is rotunda shaped with a number of radial compartments for the major assemblies each compartment having a large dia. hatch, with sealing cover incorporating purging systems. Major components can be dismantled for repair etc. through the hatches without disturbance to other components. The machinery 'hall' whose dia. is less than 1.5 times that of the main reactor pressure vessel is either above or below the reactor proper and its concrete walls are integral with those of the pressure vessel.
