Abstract

Cutter is for holding a slab of plastic foam in the path of a hot wire cutter suspended from counter-balanced levers carried on a magnetised shaft in rolling contact with a profile track made of a ferromagnetic material. The unit may be driven by an integral motor or a flexible drive. The changing locus of the wire is pref. balanced by simple counterweights. Pref. the guide roller is flanged for lateral and vertical guidance from the profile track and the profile track may be a non-magnetic structure faced with a mild steel strip. Esp. suitable fur cutting flexible or rigid foams of e.g. polyether, polyester or polystyrene resins for mfr. of furniture or vehicle seating.
