Abstract

A lactam of >=10C in the cycle (pref. dodecalactam) is polymerised, pref. in a solvent that does not dissolve the polyamide, using an anionic catalyst (pref. NaH, NaOMe, NaNH, or Na lactamate) and an activator R1CONR2COOR3 (where R1, R2 and R3 = H or an org. gp). Quality is good enough for conventional use. Activator may be PhCONPh. COOEt, AcNPh. COOEt, AcNMe, COOEt or AcNPh. COOPh.
