Abstract

The non-platinium component of the title catalyst system consists of 90-95 wt.% Fe2O3 and 10-5 wt.% Cr2O3, opt. with addn. of 1 wt.% of Mn, Zn-, K-, or Ca- oxide. This catalyst is much cheaper than a pure Pt-catalyst, has good mechanical strength, durability and effectiveness, and is not susceptible to poisoning. This catalyst system is suitable for the prodn. of HNO3, NH4NO2, etc., with oxidation of ammonia to nitrogen with oxidation of ammonia to nitrogen oxides.
