Abstract
Dehydration and recrystallisation of iron oxide during heating (to alpha - Fe2O3) results in expulsion of P from the iron oxide grains and its accumulation in siliceous gangue inclusions so that it can be easily removed. The treatment is suitable for iron ores having high P content (e.g. Australian iron ores contg. 0.15% P).
