Abstract

Gas permeable laminates are produced by (a) heating an assembly of layers consisting of (I) a layer of soft porus paper, (II) a layer of thermoplastic film, (III) a porous canvas layer, and (IV) a layer of soft porous paper, to a bonding temp. above the m.p. of the material (II), and (b) simultaneously compressing the layers between two cylinders, at least one of which is elastic, to push (IV) into contact with (II) through the openings of (III) and to limit the shrinkage of (II) as it approaches the bonding temp., so that (II) disintegrates and (I) and (IV) are bonded together by the thermoplastic material at a multiplicity of points situated within the limits of the openings of (III).
