Abstract

Making silicon nitride products by hot-pressing a mixture of silicon nitride at least 10% of which is present as Beta-phase, with a Si compound and an Mg compound such that one or both of the compounds MgO.SiO2 and 2MgO.SiO2 are present at the pressing temperature, so that the solid body is a mixture of silicon nitride and up to 10% wt. of MgO. SiO2 and/or 2MgO.SiO2. The mixture may be hot-pressed onto silicon nitride constituent(s) so that the solid body formed is bound to the silicon-nitride-type constituent(s).
