Abstract

A photographic product, used for colour photography, comprises (a) a support (b) several silver halide layers and (c) a tanned overlayer comprising a polymeric substance (I) insoluble in water but permeable in aq. soln. (I) is the reaction product of a non-diffusible tanning agent and a copolymer of vinyl alcohol in which >=10% of the OH groups are esterified by a carboxylic acid with a reactive methylene group in the alpha-position. The product may be rapidly treated at ca 50 degrees C without requiring pre-tanning and/or further treatment.
