Abstract

Process is one in which a master sheet is contacted with an original pattern and exposed by reflection, through the master sheet to radiation of suitable wavelength during a predetermined period. The master sheet comprises a translucent support and an optically homogeneous and translucent filmogenic cpd. which forms a gas when exposed to radiation and which has one or more absorption peaks. In the process, the actinic rays used for exposure exclude the absorption peak frequencies of the diazonium compd. to reduce the absorption of these radiations and allow their transmission through the film and then differential reflection by the image zones of the original. The gas formed by the diazonium cpd. is confined during the contact period in the expanded film forming cells which diffuse the rays thereby increasing preferentially the probability of local absorption of these rays resulting in the formation of a versicular image coresponding to the image of the original.
