Abstract

The lance, for use for metal refining under vacuum consists of a Cu tube for admission of oxygen, surrounded by a concentric steel tube. The annular space between them is filled with refractory cement. Oxygen is in contact with the Cu tube only avoiding oxidation of the steel tube and premature consumption of the lance. The rate of consumption of the lance is sufficiently slow for it to be used for a whole run.
