Abstract

Deviations in the position of an edge of a moving strip relative to a selected path of travel are sensed by generating sonic vibrations between a transmitter and a receiver on opposite sides of the strip. The sonic vibrations monitored effect corrective relative movement to restore the strip to a desired path of travel. The arrangement functions in high temp. environments and may sense the edge of a moving steel strip as it emerges from a molten coating bath.
