Abstract

Pipe or tank, esp. for oil or natural gas, comprises weak (pref. plastic) lining surrounded by convex (pref. concrete or cast iron) rigid wall elements. Outside these are stiffening members, pref. prestressed steel wires. The relative stiffnesses of liner and wall are such that they remain in contact over most of the liner surface under all conditions of strain.
