Abstract

Oxide semiconductors of general composition - LaxSr1-xCoO3 (pref. La0.5 Sr0.5 CoO3) with conductivity 1-10 ohm-1 cm-1 and usable at 1300 degrees C in an oxidising atmos. are prepd. by firing at 1300-1400 degrees C a mixture of 1 mole cobalt oxide, 0.25-0.4 mole La2O3, 0.975-0.2 mole SrO. The powdered product is used as a coating on the insulators of surface discharge sparking plugs. Heating at 1250-1350 degrees C gives a strong diffusion bond resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. The material may also be moulded and sintered to form furnace elements and high frequency induction susceptors.
