Abstract

Natural or synthetic rubber latex, of pH 6.5-11, contg, some unsatn. is used with 1 to 75 pts. by wt. (on latex solids) of a reactive resin with at least 2 substituents able to react between themselves and with the rubber latex, or contain grps. which react or rearrange to form grps. which react with the latex, the reactive grps. being chosen from methylol attached to N, modified methylol, alkylated with 1-4C alcohols attached to N, and methylol attached to a phenolic ring: the resins may be melamine-, urea- or phenol-formaldehyde resins. These compsns. are used for making cellular products such as carpet backing or underlay.
