Abstract

Hydrocarbons contg. an organic chloride as impurity are purified by passing the impure hydrocarbon at >=50 degrees C through a bed of solid dry particles whose surfaces contain a material selected from Al, Mg, and the oxides, hydroxides, carbonates and bicarbonates of Al, Mg, Ca, Na and K. Esp. useful for purifying lower alkanes, specif., butane. The purified alkanes cause much less corrosion of apparatus.
