Abstract
In the process the end of at least one of the rails is cut prior to welding so that the head pieces of the two rails are spaced further apart from each other than the flanges. The welding is then carried out with the ends of the rails oriented so that when the metal cools, the rails tend to align themselves. This is achieved by placing the rails so that there is an obtuse angle of suitable value between them.
