Abstract

Greatly expanded polypropylene is prepd. by pressing through an extruder a mixture of a polypropylene which contains 15-50% of n-heptane-soluble polypropylene and has an intrinsic viscosity (eta) of not 3.0, measured in tetralin at 135 degrees C, the n-heptane-soluble fraction having (eta) of 0.35-3.0, with 1 or more chemical blowing agents, under conditions such that the back-pressure is not 200 kg/cm2 and the temp. of the synthetic substance on leaving the extruder orifice is =200 degrees C. Polypropylene products with a degree of expansion of up to 5-30 can be product.
