Abstract
Borides of Groups IIIa, IVa, Va and VIa are used as electrodes for electrolytic cells or fuel cells. In the first case the boride is deposited on a metal base of the same or a different metal. In the second case the boride acts as a diffusion barrier between stabilised zirconia electrolyte and a conductive metal. The most suitable borides are TiB2, ZrB2, HfB2 and NbB2 due to their combination of high electrical conductivity, good chemical stability and relative cheapness.
