Abstract

A tower for saturating natural gas with water by passing the gas through a 'scrubber' type tower, countercurrent to a supply of (heated) water under thermostatic control to control the final moisture content of the gas. Polar solvents (alcohols, ketones, petroleum hydrocarbons) may be added together with or instead of the water. The water or solvents are added to maintain the moisture content or the extended state of sealing material or compounds used in (traditional) gas distribution systems which might otherwise dry out or contract and leak after exposure to natural gas. Perfumes may also be added to assist detection of leaks of natural gas.
