Abstract

In recovery of alcohol from aqs. solutions by distillation and rectifying, where alcohol is separated as vapour from distillation column, condensed to crude distillate and concentrated; heat of condensation is transferred to liquid of concentration column by indirect heat transfer, and the liquid is vapourised. Process is particularly suitable for recovery of rectified alcohol from fermentation mashes. In a pref. process, part of heat of condensation is transferred to 70-90 wt.% reflux liquid taken out of concentration column, which is partly vapourised and recycled near point of removal as vapour-liquid mixture. Part of heat of condensation is transferred to low wine boiling under reduced pressure, removed from still of concentration column; formed liquids being evaporated are concentrated and recycled to still of concentrating column.
