Abstract
A portable measuring device is used. Raw gas containing low concentrations of fluorine or hydrolysable fluorides is pumped over a zirconium electrode moistened with a strong acid containing hydrofluoric acid electrolyte. The electrode is linked to a platinum electrode and potential measuring device and stabilised in the region 0-350 mV. by a Ag/satd. AgI/NaI electrode short circuited to the Zr electrode via a suitable salt bridge. The measurement may be performed in the presence of other contaminant gases e.G. halogens and sulphurous gases. The electrolyte and gases are gravity separated and the electrolyte recirculated.
