Abstract

The nacreous affect is achieved by directing the acrylic polymer mass together with a plasticiser, during polymerisation in the form of a liquid jet, towards the polymerisation cell. The mass also contains material(s) contng. optically active crystals. The plasticiser may be dioctyl phthalate, dioctyl sebacate or ethylhexylphthalate. The acrylic polymer may be PMMA. The optically active crystals contng. material is suitably a PMMA gel. Polymerisation is effected in two steps: (1) prepolymerisation in a stirred container; (2) polymerisation in the cell.
