Abstract
Preformed spherical graphite bodies, with various shaped gaps or generally recessed/cut away are filled with graphite coated fuel particles either under pressure or under vibration and then heat treated to form integral assemblies. The powder used for the graphite coating is mixed with a binder or coated with it, typically of a waxy material. A two stage coating process can be used with intermediate heat treatment at =800 degrees C.
