Abstract

The lubricating characteristics of a liquid are determined by creating a film of predetermined thickness, subjecting it to frictional heating and measuring the time taken for that heating to break down the film. The film is applied to a flame surface which has a sliding load transmission member resting on it and the surface is rorated. The film thickness is measured by interferometry and the thickness controlled by the rotational speed of the plane surface.
