Abstract
Ladis seamless silk stockings are prepd. by treating the crude silk with a detergent mixt. of an aromatic sulpho-aldehyde and Teepol (RTM) in such a way that the sericin loses its gumming power so that the 2 fibroins forming the cocoon separate, although each fibroin itself is still coated with a film of sericin having modified properties. Thus, the crude silk is changed into an aggregate of fine, flexible fibres which are knitted together to form the seamless stockings and hardened at 110 degrees C. These flexible fibres can also be treated by graft polymn. with Me methacrylate or styrene, or with amino-plast resins to improve abrasion resistance. These seamless silk stockings have the advantages of silk, e.g. high hygroscopicity, suppleness, touch together with physical properties of nylon such as high abrasion and fold resistance and good light stability.
